Dalma(Odissa Dal)

Dalma is the sign food of Odissa,its of different types in different parts of the state…

U can call this mother of Dal…in Odissa Jagannath Temple is is served with Abadha (Prasad of Temple)

My daughter always ask me whetheru make Dal or Dalma coz she loves dalma…if i make dal I have to make her convince…

Ingredients

2 cups potato

1 cup brinjal

1 cup dodka

1 cup pumpkin

1 cup tomatoes

1/2 cup lauki

1/2 cup carrot

1/4 cup onion

1/4 cup beans

2 green chili

1/2 cup tuar dal

salt to taste

1 tsp oil

1 tsp ghee

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

1/4 tsp cumin seeds

1 red chili whole

2 tsp cumin-red chili powder

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

salt to taste

water to make gravy

Procedure

Cut all vegetables into big cubes.(Peel dodka,lauki,pumpkin but don’t peel potato)

In a pressure cooker,add dal n all vegetables with water.

Now add turmeric powder,salt n 4-5 drops of oil.

Pressure cook for  2 sitis.

Now remove the siti,heat oil.

Add all tadka ingredients,when mustard seeds start crackle add this to dal mixture.

Now garnish with cumin-re chili powder…Serve hot with rice or roti.
